Hmm, I don't think that is true, but yes, Excalibur is now generally considered the sword that the Lady In The Lake gives Arthur, although what it orginates from is certainly the sword in the stone, and Caliburn is an older name (via Geoffry of Monmouth) of the same sword.

Yeah, in the legend, Caliburn is the sword in the stone but then it breaks and Arthur gets the more powerful Excalibur from this fairy woman or something... ^^ (information from forums ;P)

Caliburn and Excalibur are seperate swords in the anime/game. :)<BR/><BR/>Eh-to... I would explain more, but I dunno whether the anime will go more into it. So I'll hold back for now to prevent spoilers.

Ah, I see. I'm a tad through with Caliburn - while it is mentioned in the various accounts of Arthur I've quested through, all suggest that it is just an earlier name of Excalibur, most likely from "The History of the Kings of Britain." <BR/><BR/>I think I assumed that Caliburn and Excalibur were meant to be seperate swords in the anime purely because Shirou could manifest it.

Hmm... it was not explained in the anime, but if you have read the lore on Caliburn, or played the game; Caliburn's true power can only be wielded by King Arthur, Saber in this case.<BR/><BR/>Hence why Saber held Caliburn with Shirou when they defeated Berserker. If not, Shirou would have been a bloody pulp.<BR/><BR/>Thus, Shirou manifesting Caliburn now would prove useless to him.
