Exactly! Light enacts some terrible things during his power, to try to become the next god, but in actually he is just a playing piece of a single god's favourite game. He started out relatively normal, despite his genius, but descended greatly into a mire of corruption which cost him all.

Death Note is the story of how power corrupt a once smart idealism and innocent kid to a power's thirst god-wannabe all the way to his demise.

In the end, in his hallucination to become a god, Yagami Light is nothing more than a mere toy for Luk. How ironic about that.
